VTU Planning Tool
VTU Target CGPA Calculator
Find out what SGPA you need in upcoming semesters to reach your target CGPA
How it Works
This calculator uses the VTU CGPA formula in reverse to determine what SGPA you need in your next semester to achieve your target CGPA. The formula is:
Required SGPA = (Target CGPA × Total Credits − Current CGPA × Current Credits) / Next Semester Credits
Step 1: Enter your current CGPA and total credits completed so far.
Step 2: Enter your target CGPA and the credits for your upcoming semester.
Step 3: Click "Calculate" to see the SGPA you need to score in the next semester.
If the result is above 10.0, the target is not achievable in a single semester. If it is between 0 and 10, it is a realistic goal.
Worked Example
Scenario: You have completed 3 semesters with a CGPA of 7.2 and 66 total credits. You want to reach a CGPA of 8.0. Your 4th semester has 22 credits.
Current CGPA: 7.2
Current Credits: 66
Target CGPA: 8.0
Next Semester Credits: 22
Required SGPA = (8.0 × 88 − 7.2 × 66) / 22 = (704 − 475.2) / 22 = 228.8 / 22 = 10.4
In this case, you would need an SGPA of 10.4 in your 4th semester, which is above the maximum of 10.0. This means reaching 8.0 CGPA in one semester is not possible. You would need to spread your improvement over multiple semesters or aim for a slightly lower target.
