Why Two Formulas?
2018 Scheme Formula
Percentage = (CGPA − 0.75) × 10
Under the 2018 scheme, VTU used a formula that subtracts 0.75 from the CGPA before multiplying by 10. This means a CGPA of 7.75 equals 70%, and a perfect 10.0 equals 92.5%.
2022/2025 Scheme Formula
Percentage = CGPA × 10
Starting from the 2022 scheme (including 2025), VTU simplified the conversion. CGPA is directly multiplied by 10. A CGPA of 7.0 equals 70%, and a perfect 10.0 equals 100%.
Which Formula Should I Use?
Use the formula that matches your admission year. If you were admitted under the 2018 scheme, use the 2018 formula. If admitted under 2022 or 2025, use the simplified formula. When in doubt, check your admission documents or ask your department.
