SGPA vs Percentage — What's the Difference?
SGPA (Semester Grade Point Average) is a 0–10 scale used by VTU to evaluate your performance in a single semester. It weights each subject's grade by its credit value.
Percentage is the traditional 0–100 scale that most employers and institutions are familiar with. VTU provides an official formula to convert between the two.
The conversion formula depends on your scheme. Under the 2018 scheme, the formula is Percentage = (SGPA − 0.75) × 10. Under the 2022 and 2025 schemes, VTU simplified it to Percentage = SGPA × 10.
This means the same SGPA yields a higher percentage under the newer scheme. For example, an SGPA of 8.0 equals 72.5% under the 2018 scheme but 80% under the 2022/2025 scheme.
